2023 Shift Hui Coordinator
Part-time contractor role; Fixed-term
8 months (January – August 2023)
$30 p/hr starting wage
Location: Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington
InsideOUT Kōaro is a national youth charity seeking someone to coordinate our national youth hui, Shift. As this is a project that sits within te ao Māori, we are interested in providing the opportunity to organise Shift to someone who is Māori/takatāpui.
Shift is a national hui (gathering) for rainbow/takatāpui young people aged 15 – 21. It supports them to make connections and learn about different issues facing rainbow and takatāpui communities. Participants take part in workshops and activities, gaining new skills and knowledge to help them make their schools and communities safer and more inclusive.
As our Shift Hui Coordinator, you will oversee the planning and delivery of one in-person Shift Hui (held from April 21st – 24th 2023) and coordinate and deliver a second, virtual Shift Hui planned for July, 2023.
You will be responsible for developing and updating a risk management plan that reflects the risks of Covid-19, managing and supporting volunteers and overseeing the overall coordination for the event. This includes things such as liaising with Horouta Marae, overseeing promotion and publicity, working with volunteers to develop the programme, menu and more. You will also be responsible for reporting regularly to our Managing Director, gathering feedback, overseeing evaluation processes and reporting on these.
Ideally, the successful applicant will:
-
- Have superb organisational and communicational skills (both written and verbal)
- Be able to stay calm under pressure and quickly solve problems
- Be self-motivated with strong time-management skills
- Have proven experience planning and coordinating successful events
- Ideally, be knowledgeable of the challenges faced by rainbow takatāpui young people
- Ideally, have youth work or cultural competency experience
- Ideally, have experience working on or with marae
This is a contract for up to 380 hours, spread across eight months (January-August). Hourly rate is to be confirmed and may depend on experience, however InsideOUT is committed to always paying above a living wage and making sure rates are appropriate for contractors too. Hours will build up over this time, with a significant amount of these taking place at the hui (April 21st – 24th). Days and times worked outside of this are negotiable.
