2024 Shift Hui Coordinator
Part-time contractor role; fixed-term
December 2023 – August 2024 (380 hours)
$38 per hour
Location: Ideally Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington, but accepting applications from anywhere in Aotearoa
InsideOUT Kōaro is a national youth charity seeking someone to coordinate our national youth hui, Shift. As this is a project that sits within te ao Māori, we are interested in providing the opportunity to organise Shift to someone who is Māori/takatāpui.
You will be responsible for overseeing the planning and delivery of a national hui for young people aged 15-21, held in-person across four days – April 19th-22nd 2024 and coordinating and delivering an online virtual Shift Hui planned for July.
This will include updating a risk management plan, supporting volunteers and overseeing the overall coordination for the event. This includes things such as liaising with Horouta Marae, overseeing promotion and publicity, working with volunteers to develop the programme, menu and more. You will also be responsible for reporting regularly to our Managing Director, gathering feedback, overseeing evaluation processes and reporting on these.
InsideOUT Kōaro is a growing organisation that works to support youth, whānau, schools, community groups, youth services, government agencies and other relevant organisations to provide safer schools and communities for rainbow young people. Shift is a hui (gathering) for rainbow/takatāpui young people that supports them to make connections, learn about different issues facing rainbow and takatāpui communities, take part in workshops and activities and gain new skills and knowledge to help them make their schools and communities a safer place.
Ideally, the successful applicant will:

- Have superb organisational and communicational skills (both written and verbal)
- Be able to stay calm under pressure and quickly solve problems
- Be self-motivated with strong time-management skills
- Have proven experience planning and coordinating successful events
- Ideally, be knowledgeable of the challenges faced by rainbow and takatāpui young people
- Ideally, have youth work or cultural competency experience
- Ideally, have experience working on or with marae
This is a contract role (contractors must pay their own tax) for up to 380 hours at $38 per hour, spread across nine months (December-August). Hours will build up over this time, with a significant amount of these taking place at the in-person hui (April 19th-22nd). Days and times worked outside of this are negotiable.
