The next General Election in Aotearoa New Zealand is on Saturday the 7th of November, 2026.

Voting is important as it determines which people and parties will represent us in Parliament over the next years, and their decisions shape our communities and lives.

Key dates for this year’s election

25th October

To vote in a general election you need to be enrolled by midnight, 13 days before Election day. For the 2026 General Election, this means you can’t enrol or update your details after midnight, Sunday 25th October 2026.

26th October

Advance voting starts 12 days before Election day.

7th November

Election day. Voters can vote at a voting place from 9am-7pm on Election day. The doors close at 7pm – anyone inside the voting place at 7pm is allowed to complete their vote.
