You will need to have some regular flexible availability during school hours (8am-4pm Monday to Friday) for this role.
You will be responsible for managing and developing InsideOUT’s relationships with schools and school groups in your region. You will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of a regional network for schools with rainbow diversity groups/queer-straight alliances and supporting local volunteers. InsideOUT’s work with schools will sit alongside and tautoko the work of other local organisations providing peer support and advocacy for rainbow and takatāpui young people.
This will include planning and facilitating regular meet-ups alongside volunteers and providing support to schools and school groups through resources, professional development training, and providing advice over phone, e-mail, and in-person as required. You will provide quarterly reports on the progress of your work and maintain a database of your interactions with schools.
InsideOUT is a growing organisation that works to support youth, whānau, schools, community groups, youth services, government agencies and other relevant organisations to provide safer schools and communities for rainbow young people.
We are looking for someone with superb organisational and communication skills and outstanding knowledge of the challenges faced by sexual, sex, and gender minorities. Experience in facilitation and previous experience working with young people and schools is strongly desired. You are self-motivated with strong time management skills, and will work to uphold the vision and values of InsideOUT. This includes a strengths based approach to youth work.
From time to time additional hours may be available to support the delivery of rainbow competency training outside of schools.
We are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and honouring mātauranga Māori and tikanga Māori. Our preference is for someone who shares these commitments, and either has a strong understanding of te ao Māori, or is willing to learn.
A restricted or full drivers license and own vehicle is strongly desired for this position and mandatory in many regions, as the role will require travel within your region. You must be comfortable working independently, however you will be part of a team that connects online and in person at least twice a year.
