Thanks to funding from the Mental Health Foundation, and Pink Shirt Day, InsideOUT is hosting a series of workshops across Aotearoa, for anyone wanting to make changes in their school to create more inclusive environments for rainbow young people. This is a great chance to connect with other schools and learn from each other about creating safe environments. By working together to celebrate our rainbow diversity, we can prevent and stop rainbow-focused bullying and discrimination in schools.

In 2019 InsideOUT ran 10 workshops across the country. You can read about our findings in our report.

Between January 2020 – June 2021 InsideOUT will be delivering another 32 workshops across Aotearoa, including three workshops focused on rainbow inclusive primary and  intermediate schools. Additionally we are delivering free staff and student workshops to 25 rural schools.

We will also look at key initiatives and events your school can take part in throughout the year, like Pink Shirt Day, an annual bullying prevention campaign run by the Mental Health Foundation. We’ll explore the Pink Shirt Day tagline ‘Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying’ and give you practical ways to use it within your school. We’ll explore what you want to achieve in your school and help you set goals for the year ahead.

The workshop is open to both high-school students and school staff to attend. Contact emmett@insideout.org.nz for further information or questions.

Pink Shirt Day is a bullying prevention campaign run by the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. It originated in Canada in 2007 after two students took a stand against homophobic bullying and mobilised their whole school when a student was harassed and threatened for wearing pink. In New Zealand, it aims to create environments where all people feel safe, valued and respected regardless of age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability or cultural background. .
