Seeking new Hawke’s Bay Schools Coordinator

Permanent, part time role (10 – 16 hours per week) 

$27 per hour (starting rate, dependent on experience and relevant qualifications)

InsideOUT Kōaro is a growing organisation that works to support youth, whānau, schools, community groups, youth services, government agencies and other relevant organisations to provide safer schools and communities for rainbow young people.

We are seeking a new regional schools coordinator to support our growing mahi in schools in the Hawke’s Bay/Te Matau-a-Māui region. This is a permanent, part-time role that requires applicants to have some regular flexible availability during school hours (8am – 4pm Monday to Friday).

We are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and honouring mātauranga Māori and tikanga Māori in all areas of our work. We are looking for people who share these commitments and either have a strong understanding of te ao Māori or are willing to learn.

Job responsibilities:

    • Managing and developing InsideOUT Kōaro’s relationship with schools and school groups in your region.
    • Overseeing the delivery of a regional network for schools with rainbow diversity groups/queer-straight alliances and supporting local volunteers.

This will include:

    • Planning and facilitating regular meet-ups alongside volunteers
    • Providing support to schools and school groups through resources, professional development training
    • Providing advice over phone, e-mail, and in-person as required.
    • Providing reports on the progress of your work as necessary and maintaining a database of your interactions with schools.

A successful applicant will:

    • Have a practical toolkit of time, task and self-management skills
    • Demonstrate outstanding knowledge of the challenges faced by sexual, sex, and gender minorities.
    • Have experience in facilitation (previous experience working with young people and schools is strongly desired)
    • Be self-motivated and an effective communicator
    • Work to uphold the vision and values of InsideOUT Kōaro. This includes a strengths based approach to youth work.

InsideOUT Kōaro’s work with schools will sit alongside and tautoko the work of other local organisations providing peer support and advocacy for rainbow and takatāpui young people.

From time to time additional hours may be available to support the delivery of rainbow competency training outside of schools.

A restricted or full drivers license and own vehicle is required as this role requires travel within your wider region.

You must be comfortable working independently, however you will be part of a team that connects online and in person at least twice a year.
