Submission from the Aotearoa New Zealand IDAHOBIT Day Coalition
Last year, our coalition of community-based organisations created a report in preparation for a panel discussion with political parties on 17th May 2017. That date is referred to in Aotearoa New Zealand as the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex discrimination, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). Our Aotearoa New Zealand IDAHOBIT Day Coalition’s 2017 report summarised longstanding concerns about the human rights issues that Rainbow communities face because of our sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or sex characteristics (SOGIESC).
This 2018 UPR submission updates that report and was written by individuals and groups that are members of that Aotearoa New Zealand IDAHOBIT Day Coalition. It highlights outstanding human rights issues faced by Rainbow communities, and the significant pressures that places on largely unfunded community organisations. This submission also benefited from significant input by other Rainbow organisations and allies, who contributed to the submission prior to giving their endorsement.
