Wellington Schools Coordinator

Permanent, part-time, Wellington based

Kia hiwa rā! E kimi ana mātou i tētahi kaimahi hou.

InsideOUT Kōaro is a national youth charity seeking a Wellington Schools Coordinator for 20 hours per week to support our growing work in Wellington and Wairarapa schools. You will need to have some flexible availability during school hours (8am-4pm Monday to Friday) for this role. There is a possibility of the hours increasing further from July.

You will be responsible for managing and developing InsideOUT’s relationships with schools and school groups in Wellington and Wairarapa. You will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of a regional network for schools with or wanting to start rainbow diversity groups/queer-straight alliances, known as Q’D UP Wellington.

This will include planning and facilitating monthly meet-ups alongside volunteers and providing support to schools and school groups through resources, and advice over phone, e-mail, and in-person as required. You will be expected to record details of your work as you go, and provide quarterly reports to the Managing Director on the progress of the project.

InsideOUT is a growing organisation that works to support youth, whānau, schools, community groups, youth services, government agencies and other relevant organisations to provide safer schools and communities for rainbow young people.

We are looking for someone with superb organisational and communication skills and outstanding knowledge of the challenges faced by sexual, sex, and gender minorities. Experience in facilitation and previous experience working with young people and schools is strongly desired. You are self-motivated with strong time management skills, and will work to uphold the vision and values of InsideOUT.  This includes a strengths based approach to youth work.

We are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and honouring matauranga Maori and tikanga Māori. Our preference is for someone who shares these commitments, and either has a strong understanding of te ao Māori, or is willing to learn. Working with schools in the region requires an ability to navigate different school environments and cultures, from private and faith based schools to rural schools and those with high Māori and Pacific student populations.

A restricted or full drivers license and own vehicle is required for this position as the role will require travel within the Wellington and Wairarapa region. You must be comfortable working independently, however there will be frequent contact available with our Managing Director and our team of Schools Coordinators based around Aotearoa.  More information about the organisation is available on our website:

This is a permanent role for 20 hours a week, with the possibility of further hours available later this year. The successful applicant will be paid above a living wage.
