Canterbury/Waitaha Schools Coordinator

InsideOUT Kōaro is a national youth charity seeking a Waitaha/Canterbury Schools Coordinator for 20 hours a week to support our growing mahi with Waitaha/Canterbury schools. This includes work from central Christchurch all the way out to Timaru and Waimate. You will need to have some flexible availability during school hours (8am-4pm Monday to Friday) for this role.

You will be responsible for managing and developing InsideOUT’s relationships with schools and school groups in Waitaha/Canterbury. You will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of a regional network for schools with rainbow diversity groups/queer-straight alliances and supporting local volunteers. InsideOUT’s work with schools will sit alongside and tautoko the work of Qtopia, the local organisation providing peer support and advocacy for rainbow and takatāpui young people.

This will include delivering professional development to school staff, planning and facilitating monthly meet-ups alongside volunteers and providing support to schools and school groups through resources, and advisement over phone, e-mail, and in-person as required. You will implement an evaluation system for the project and provide quarterly reports to the Managing Director on the progress of the project.


InsideOUT is a growing organisation that works to support youth, whānau, schools, community groups, youth services, government agencies and other relevant organisations to provide safer schools and communities for rainbow young people.


We are looking for someone with superb organisational and communication skills and outstanding knowledge of the challenges faced by sexual, sex, and gender minorities. Experience in facilitation and previous experience working with young people and schools is strongly desired. You are self-motivated with strong time management skills, and will work to uphold the vision and values of InsideOUT.  This includes a strengths based approach to youth work. 

We are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and honouring matauranga Maori and tikanga Māori. Our preference is for someone who shares these commitments, and either has a strong understanding of te ao Māori, or is willing to learn.

A restricted or full drivers license and own vehicle is desired for this position as the role will require travel within the wider Canterbury region. You must be comfortable working independently as you will be our only staff member working in Canterbury. This is a role for 20 hours a week, with the possibility of further hours potentially being available from July. The successful applicant will be paid a living wage.
