Manawatu Schools Coordinator

Part-time; fixed-term (eleven months), Manawatu/Palmerston North based

InsideOUT is a national youth charity seeking a Manawatu Schools Coordinator for 16 hours a month (average four per week) to support our growing work in Manawatu and Horowhenua schools.

You will be responsible for managing and developing InsideOUT’s relationships with schools and school groups in Manawatu and Horowhenua (Palmerston North and all townships within the Manawatu and Horowhenua District Council boundaries, the role does not include Whanganui). You will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of a regional network for schools with rainbow diversity groups/queer-straight alliances, known as the Manawatu QSA Leadership Group.

This will include planning and facilitating monthly meet-ups alongside volunteers and providing support to schools and school groups through resources, and advisement over phone, e-mail, and in-person as required. You will implement an evaluation system for the project and provide quarterly reports to the National Coordinator on the progress of the project.


InsideOUT is a growing organisation that works to support youth, whānau, schools, community groups, youth services, government agencies and other relevant organisations to provide safer schools and communities for young people of minority sexualities, genders and sex characteristics.


We are looking for someone with superb organisational and communication skills and outstanding knowledge of the challenges faced by sexual, sex, and gender minorities. Experience in facilitation and previous experience working with young people and schools is strongly desired. You are self-motivated with strong time management skills, and will work to uphold the vision and value of InsideOUT.  This includes a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a strengths based approach to youth work.

A restricted or full drivers license and own vehicle is desired for this position as the role will require travel within the Manawatu and Horowhenua regions and to and from Wellington from time to time, but is not essential. You must be comfortable working independently as the rest of our staff are Wellington-based, however there will be frequent contact available with our National Coordinator.  More information about the organisation is available on our website:

This is an eleven month contract for 16 hours a month, with the possibility of either the hours or the term increasing. The successful applicant will be paid a living wage.
